Non Meat Eaters Should Take Supplemental Carnitine

Muscles require carnitine to burn fat efficiently. Not surprisingly, the highest concentration of carnitine in the diet is in the muscle or animals, i.e., red meat. Reduced intake of dietary carnitine results in loss of function of carnitine systems in muscle, reducing the performance capacity of muscle (weaker muscles) and making it easier to accumulate fat in muscle.
