A Minute with Mary: Healthy Children Begin in the Womb
September 20, 2012
Mary Guignon Richards
Being pregnant with child is one of the most exciting events in a woman’s life, it conforms to her innate desire to be a mother. This is nothing new for women. This feeling is an integral part of our female human genome that has existed from the beginning of the human race.
Your role as mother is of extreme importance; it is perhaps the most important role for the entire human race. Without mothers none of us would be here today, there would be no future. Seemingly so simple, this is truly quite profound.
So what can we do to help the children we bring into the world be healthy and vibrant for life? It all begins with us mothers. We must be healthy. We must make healthy choices each and every day of our lives. Some of those choices are to know what we put in our bodies. We must understand and choose what we eat and drink, and not just eat and drink anything.
We must be diligent in eating quality foods. Include necessary nutritional fortification. Exercise our minds and body’s. Sleep in a regular time pattern. Avoid toxic, harmful chemicals and unnecessary stressors. All of these things will give your child the highest opportunity to be healthy for life. Be intentional about making sure you can check these items off your daily “to do” list.
Children in their mothers womb have a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop the strongest, healthiest genes for their entire lives. This time is of the essence, beyond their control and in the hands of their mothers. The choices their mothers make during the nine months of pregnancy directly relate to their gene development and health for the rest of their lives. Therefore, we as mothers must see this and deeply understand the importance of each and every choice we make throughout pregnancy. This is for our children; this is for their future and future generations. They depend on us. What choices will you make today?
