Obesity, Immunity, and Premature Death
June 28, 2008
It is convenient for modern medicine to separate a patient's problems into neatly divided specialty areas so that problems can be micro-analyzed by various specialists. This is convenient for treating, diagnosing, referring, and drug dispensing. This system generates income for the sickness industry but it often fails to understand the highly integrated nature of any problem you may be having.
For example, a new study explains the highly integrated nature of obesity and immunity1. In a nut shell it says that if you eat too much it is going to change your immune system at a fundamental level in an adverse way and you are going to die sooner. To a lesser extent obesity promotes allergy, inflammation, autoimmune problems, and immune suppression that can lead to a variety of cancers. But what does a doctor trained in Western medicine do about it other than treat the problems obesity causes as they emerge?
Doctors seldom know how to get your immune system to work better or how to help you lose weight in a healthy way. They can't understand that obesity, stress, adrenals, thyroid, immune function, detoxification, digestive problems, and your diet are all interrelated and must all be addressed at once (if any areas have problems) if you are to make consistent progress with your health. And if they do understand these very important relationships they don't generally know how to help you because drugs don't fix or improve the overall health of these integrated systems.
We are living in a day and age wherein Western Medicine has high value for acute needs, emergencies, and temporary remedies – all of which treatments should only last a defined period of time. After that the only person who really cares about you and is truly going to help you is you. And you need to learn a lot to take care of yourself properly.
